Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Mike Kube is a 2nd degree Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt and instructor with over twenty years experience in the art. His coaching and teaching style are heavily influenced but his personal journey in the martial arts where he was consistently weaker and smaller than most of his peers. Overcoming these obstacles has led him to create a program that allows even those with physical limitations to be comfortable and have fun while learning a valuable skill.
Mike started jiu jitsu in 2002 under Master Marcelo Alonso of the famed Carlson Gracie team at his academy in Seattle, WA. In 2007 he suffered a major injury that sidelined his training. But it was through Jiu Jitsu that he was able to more quickly and effectively reach his rehabilitation goals. During this time he became involved in refereeing jiu Jitsu matches professionally.
Mike achieved the rank of black belt in December of 2018, while remaining active in coaching and refereeing. Concurrently he started formally teaching, first running a jiu jitsu program in a local Judo dojo and then at Master Marcelo’s own academy in Seattle. In July of 2024 he was awarded a second degree on his Black Belt from Master Marcelo.
Mike has been the head jiu jitsu instructor at Vice Versa Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Bonham since the beginning of 2024 and has maintained his knowledge by attending seminars and visiting academies in the Texoma and DFW areas.
The focus of his teaching is the classical€ jiu jitsu he learned directly from Master Marcelo who in turn learned from the legendary Master Carlson Gracie. This type of foundational jiu jitsu is applicable across all ages and athletic abilities and lends itself well to both sport and self defense applications. The focus is on movements and techniques that are simple, effective, and most importantly, fun to learn and apply.
